Spraybeach Yacht Club Membership
Spray Beach Yacht Club (SBYC) was founded in 1905 and incorporated in 1927. The mission of the club as stated in the original charter is to “To promote yachting, teach sailing, foster athletic sports upon the water and promote social functions among yachtsmen.” For over a century SBYC has grown and changed, yet the original purpose of its existence remains essentially the same.

SBYC is a family oriented organization that exists soley because of the participation of our members. The CLub's goal is to recruit and retain members that will participate in the club’s many activities and contribute to the well being of the Club. In addition to dues and dockage fees, members are strongly encouraged to contribute their time and effort to the management and maintenance of the club, and to participate in the wide variety of boating and social activities that the Club offers. We do not expect members to just “dock their boat” at SBYC. Whether you sail, fish, kayak or just enjoy being on the water or relaxing with friends, please make SBYC part of your family routine. Involvement in, and commitment to SBYC will lead to your successful membership, and provide a more rewarding experience, and make the Club better for all involved.

The six current classifications of members are:
* Senior Individual – Not less than the age of 25 and includes any of his/her children under the age of 19.
* Senior Family – Married couple that includes any of their children under the age of 17.
* Senior Inactive.
* Intermediate – Individual not less than the age of 19 or more than the age of 24.
* Junior – Individual not less than the age of seven or more than the age of 18 whose parent(s), grandparent(s), or guardian(s) are active members of SBYC.
* Probationary.

The By Laws of SBYC limit our membership to 250 senior voting members. Our membership has been full for the past several years. Typically a number of openings occur each spring. Our Membership Committee maintains the waiting list for proposed applicants.

Applying for Membership
All applicants for membership must complete an application. This document requires the signature of primary and secondary sponsors, who are active senior voting members of the Club in good standing. After the application is received, the Membership Committee will request letters of recommendation from both sponsors. Upon completion of the application, prospective members will placed on a waiting list.

In the spring, when openings typically occur, the applicant(s) will be invited for an interview with our Membership Committee. The interview takes place at SBYC and provides the Membership Committee with an opportunity to formally meet the applicant(s). This meeting also serves to familiarize the applicant(s) with the common practices of SYBC and understand what is expected from their membership.

After the interview process, when an opening is available, the applicant(s) will be notified of the outcome. If accepted, they will be admitted to the membership as a probationary member for two years. Once notified, the applicant(s) will be required to remit the dues and initiation fees within 72 hours. The payment is required promptly due to the waiting list in place.

Upon satisfactorily fulfilling the probationary period, the names of the applicant(s) will be submitted to the Board of Governors for approval to permanent membership. Upon this approval, the member will be placed on the active membership rolls.
